Canned fruit and vegetable sector contributes 8,000 jobs to the Region of Murcia
According to La Verdad, the food industry sector has experienced a growth of 4.2% of employment with respect to the year 2017, which implies an even greater increase if we translate it into the period between 2014 and 2018. In total a rise of 16.31% and more than 23,000 persons affiliated with the Spanish Social security.
In addition, the canned fruit and vegetable sector contributes 8,000 jobs to the region of Murcia.
According to Murcia Economía, the food industry represents 5% of the VAB (gross added value) of the region and 50% of the production of the non-energy industrial sector, which contributes more than 6 billion euros.
Exports of frozen juices and vegetables are increasing and the canned fruit and vegetable are lowered
The newspaper La Verdad confirms a 20% rise in juice exports, 13% of frozen vegetables, an 8% increase in sweets and 4% of sauces. On the other hand, canned fruit and vegetables suffer a slight decline in their exports.
Although the recent decline by the United States of tariffs on Spanish imports of artichokes in preserves augurs a more satisfactory future for Murcian producers and exporters.
However, it should be noted that the exports of the food and beverage industry maintains its strength in the region as a whole, reaching, according to Murcia Economía, a total of 1.8 billion euros.
